Dr. Andronica Handie is a foot and ankle surgeon, and the inventor of the Reign Medical CLENCH® Staple Delivery System. Dr. Handie is focused on innovation in design, technique and utilization of surgical devices, and is currently the lead foot and ankle surgeon at Invictus Healthcare in Tulsa, OK. Dr. Handie is Board Certified, a graduate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine and a masters degree in Biopharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Handie earned his medical degree from Kent State University, followed by his internship at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic, and his surgical residency at the Surgical Hospital of Oklahoma. Dr. Handie has served as section chief during his tenure, being recognized as one of America’s Top Podiatric Surgeons. Dr. Handie is the author of “Swift Enough To Endure” and many additional peer-reviewed research articles. Reign Medical and Solvay, a leading global supplier of specialty polymers, announced today that Solvay's Ixef® polyarylamide (PARA) resin delivered the high stiffness and biocompatibility that Reign Medical preferred for its revolutionary new Clench® compression staple system, a single-use bone staple kit for orthopedic procedures targeting the hand and foot.
“Our impetus for the Reign Medical’s Clench® Staple kit was to develop a more robust, single-use bone fixation system than currently available. Many competitive solutions use lower performing plastics that do not reliably withstand the force required to hold Nitinol staples open, causing the staples to disengage prematurely. We chose Ixef® PARA for its outstanding stiffness, which enabled even the smaller components of the delivery tool to reliably withstand the compression of the staples as well as the torsional, tamping and axial loads applied during fixation procedures.”
