Akin Osteotomy Procedure

Akin Osteotomy Procedure

REIGN Medical Clench Akin technique: :

  1. Create an incision medial to the extensor hallux longus tendon and expose the proximal phalanx shaft. Create a closing wedge osteotomy at the proximal phalanx shaft while preserving the lateral cortex intact.

  2. Use the Clench implant sizer guide to determine the correct size for appropriate staple. Then select the correct sterile Clench staple system kit.

  3. Place the drill guide perpendicular to the osteotomy. Then drilling the first proximal pilot hole. A guide post should be inserted to the pilot drill hole for stabilizing the position of the drill guide. Second drilling was then performed to the distal drill guide sleeve. The drill will have a positive stop to help with the correct depth. Once the position of the staple drill hole position is satisfied then the drill post can be removed.

  4. Clench staple is preloaded to the delivery inserter with the connected tamp. Then insert the clech staple in the drill holes, the connected tamp is loosened with a counter clockwise turn. Once the tamp is disengaged from the inserter, the tamp will be placed on the staple to be malleted down.

  5. Once the Clench staple is inserted against the cortical bone, the compression force closes down the osteotomy. Then take a final x-ray prior closure.
